PESHAWAR: Special Assistant to the Chief Minister on Energy, Engineer Tariq Sadozai, has said that the timely completion of hydropower projects is a top priority of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government.

He noted that these projects would not only help address the province’s energy shortfall but also create local employment opportunities and ensure the supply of affordable electricity to the public.

Sadozai expressed these views during a visit to the under-construction 69-megawatt Lawi Hydropower Project in Lower Chitral. He was accompanied by Project Director Javed Afridi, Commandant Chitral Scouts, SP, SSU, Assistant Commissioner Drosh, the contractor, and officials of the Pakhtunkhwa Energy Development Organization (PEDO).

Inspecting various sections of the project, he reviewed the pace of work and was briefed on progress and challenges. Expressing concern over delays, he warned that further setbacks would not be tolerated and directed the contractor to accelerate efforts.

Calling the Lawi project a vital initiative for both the local community and the province, Sadozai instructed the project director to immediately escalate any obstacles at the provincial or federal level so they could be resolved without delay.

He emphasized that the government was utilizing all available resources to ensure timely completion and cautioned that negligence would not be accepted.

Sadozai added that the completion of Lawi and other hydropower projects would substantially boost electricity generation in KP, reduce loadshedding, strengthen the economy, and open new avenues of development while providing jobs and facilities to local residents.
